Beloved children’s entertainer Raffi ‘s 25th album for children embodies the qualities of fun, imagination and learning that have always animated his songs. Dog on the Floor’s themes include playtime (“Play Play Play”), affirmation (“The Way It Goes”) and the nurturing roles of family and community (“Love Grows Love,” “Market Day” and “It Takes A Village”). Raffi will be celebrating the release with a #BelugaGrads family concert tour this fall and winter.
From our NAPPA music judge: “The “Dog on the Floor” is Luna, Raffi’s young dog and the inspiration for three songs here. But Luna isn’t alone animal-wise – horses, dragonflies and lambs (as in “Mary Had A Little…”) also get attention from Raffi here. What really impresses on his 25th album is how the 70-year-old Raffi still sings with a joy-filled, child-like wonder, as exemplified on great tracks like “Market Day” and “Play Play Play.” Raffi’s relaxed, folksy music (mainly recorded in his home studio) also includes a gentle rendition of “Here Comes The Sun” and a lovely, powerful anthem “It Takes A Village.”
