Dominique’s Thrifted Treasures
Dominique’s Thrifted Treasures

Celebrate thrifted treasures and the power of community and family in this fun book with Dominique’s Thrifted Treasures. When Pawpaw moves in, he shows Dominique a whole new meaning of hand-me-down clothes. When Dominique and Pawpaw embark on a trip to the grocery store, Dominique meets the former owner of each quirky, thrifted find and hears a memory associated with the clothing. Their quick trip to the grocery store becomes much more as they also make stops at the barbershop and the local ice cream parlor and, along the way, meet community members who are surprised but pleased to see their previous belongings sported by Dominique.

Evaluation comments:

“The story is wonderful and heartwarming.”

“I like that at the end of the book there is a personal note from the author about why they wrote the book. There are also some questions to help foster a discussion about fashion, thrifting, recycling etc.”

“I like that there is a page titled “The Joys of Thrifting.” I also like that this story is about a nonbinary child- although they are never labeled but are referred by their name or “they,” “their” throughout the story.”

“Dominique loves their Pawpaw and learning about his memories. I like that each person shares a memory with Dominique and that helps them learn to enjoy the stories behind the fashions.”

“A good book for a family or a classroom.”
