Evaluation comments:
“With “Positrons” as the band’s name and Energetic as the album’s title, you expect a set of uplifting, up-tempo music, and Marsha Goodman-Wood and her group definitely delivers the goods. The happy mood arrives with the opening tune, “Buzz Buzz”. “Road To Bremen,” meanwhile, conveys the wonderful kinship of making music and “We’re Going to The Library” salutes the simple joys that libraries hold. Similarly, fun tracks like “Shoelaces” and “No More Doctor Blues” celebrate the everyday triumphs of learning to tying your shoes and a successful doctor visit, while “New Leaf” underscores the upside of fresh starts. Even more impressive here are the songs where Marsha transforms sophisticated concepts into understandable educational points wrapped up in catchy melodies. “Counting On My Brain” examines various parts, and functions, of a brain. “Kinetic And Potential Energy” addresses energy theories. The sublime “Starlings” (featuring hip-hop singer SaulPaul) uses the birds’ murmurations (unified formation flying) to promote self-confidence and the capacity to “shine extra bright,” while the rocking “Ghost Forest Investigators”…well, you should just investigate this song for yourself. With Energetic, the Washington DC-based band scores “an unlimited supply of high fives,” as Marsha sings (along with rapper Dumi Right) on the jubilant closing track, “High Fives.””
