Evaluation comments:
“From the super-charged opening seconds of her title track that kicks off Debi Derryberry’s latest effort, you easily understand the sense of urgency she feels to have people “go green.” A familiar presence on the kids entertainment scene (she’s a highly successful voice actor besides being a musician and author), Derryberry knows the best route to deliver a message is by doing it with a lot of fun. On the more “how to” style songs here (like “Gotta Go Green,” “Recycle!” and “Don’t Can The Can, Man”), she dials up the dance beats to get her points across in an up-tempo style. She turns the energy a bit on “Carbon Footprint” in order to explain that slightly complicated term (plus, it is about conserving energy). Derryberry also makes the wise move to do several songs from a child’s point-of-view. In the synth-poppy “My Electric Car,” a child extols the virtues of having an electric car. “I’m A Great Recycler” and “Don’t Can The Can, Man”, meanwhile, share ways that a kid can be a “great recycler” just like the songs. Teddy The Tree serves as the narrator on “Earth Day’s My Birthday,” which is about the importance of protecting our natural resources. A similar preserve-our-environment moral is at the root of the amusing “Oodle the Orangutan.” On Gotta Go Green, Derryberry creates a winning combination of catchy tunes and important messages in a jubilant, thought-provoking manner.”
