Wendy and DB’s latest album, “Hey Big World”, is a high energy CD of original music that focuses on travel and STEM subjects like science, language, and the arts. Keeping the arts in school programming is important to Wendy & DB and a percentage of the CD sales benefit two not-for-profit organizations: Jumpstart (here in the US) and A Better Life for Kids (helping school-age children in Ghana, Africa).
Evaluation comments from our NAPPA Awards Music Judge:
“Wendy & DB populate their latest album with a big world of sweet music: fun songs, message songs, dance-to songs, and quiet-times songs. Hey Big World also benefits from the wonderful flow that this set of tunes. Their re-invented, and interactive, take on “E-I-E-O” is followed by “La Dey Da” (a bilingual tune about inclusiveness), and the jazzy “Gibberito” wraps this trio of language-centered songs. The popular Illinois-based duo then celebrates music-making with the heartfelt “From the Heart” and the hand-jiving “Kitchen Band.” Leaving the “Kitchen,” Wendy & DB stay in with house as they sing about “Home” and the not-really-spooky “Ghost In The Closet.” They next outdoors with “Get Outside” and a cover of “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” – with kite-flying then leading to a song revolving around “Gravity.” Even the opening tracks (the travel-themed title tune and “Clouds”) are mirrored, more or less, by the closing songs (a family-oriented update of Willie Dixon’s “Stop For The Red Light” and “Night Sky”). However, whether you follows the themes or not, Hey Big World provides families with a memory musical adventure.”
