“On her latest album, Dines has constructed a song cycle about the four seasons. The award-winning musician has basically divided the 12 tracks into three-song sets that focus on each season, with each section starting with a tune (“It’s Spring!”, “Summertime”, “Autumn”, and “Winter”) that gives a colorful overview of the specific season. Sometimes the other tracks are more evocative of its season, such as “Baby Birds Sing ‘Cheep Cheep’” goes with spring since it’s the time when birds often are born and “Bye Bye Bug” fits summer because bugs generally appear when temperatures rise. Other tunes are more obvious matches, like “Sleigh Ride” with Winter and “Leaves” with Autumn. Whatever the song or whatever the season, Dines gives her music a lush, inviting sound that frequently favors a jazzy mood. The fun Fall number, “Five Jack O’Lanterns,” for example, spotlights some nifty jazz guitar playing. Finger snaps and a strummy ukulele provide a sunny vibe to “Summertime” while the lovely gentle “Winter” brings its own warmth to that seasonal song. Seasons also makes a nice concept album companion to Dines’ earlier album Holidays.”
