Renowned Disney music producer Fred Mollin makes it “Great To Be a Kid” during these challenging times with the release of an uplifting new album for young children. “It’s Great To Be A Kid” contains new fun songs about life and living he wrote during the pandemic to help young kids struggling at home look forward to the future.
Evaluation comments from our NAPPA Awards Music Judge:
“A pro’s pro, Fred Mollin is a producer/musician with a lengthy resume. In the family music world, he is best known for producing Rugrats and many Disney Lullaby records. With its wisdom and whimsy, Kid succeeds in on its own merits. In his liner notes, Mollin says the music was made for 2-5 year olds, and he definitely hits his mark. He expertly mixes musical styles, tempos and even singers (lead vocals are divided between Mollin and three other performers) while his songs cover topics that little ones enjoy: animals, food, friendship, and fun. “What Will The Weather Be?,” “Driving In The Car,” and “What’s A Friend” stand out as tracks that tackle their subjects especially well, and if the rousing “Let’s Clean The House” doesn’t inspire children to clean I don’t know what song will. Including interactive versions of three Kid tunes as bonus material is a smart idea. I also want to particularly praise “Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt and Popsicles” for the Mollin’s spoken “word jazz” rhymes filling up the first 3/4s of the number; it suggested to me a more playful Ken Nordine.”
