Let’s Put On a Show is a charming ten song album for kids written by family music artist, Beth Jean. The album is inspired by her love of theatre and classic Broadway musicals.
Evaluation comments from our NAPPA Awards Music Judge:
“The title offers nod to those Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland “Let’s Put On A Show” movies of the 1930s, and this album frequently does project an old-fashion vibe, from the kewpie doll-like voice that Beth Jean sometimes sings in to the ukulele and toy instruments that pop up in songs. The songs also have a sweet innocence about them, but there is a truly wacky sense of humor running through Beth Jean’s music too. Or, to quote her song “Whoopsie Daisy,” the tunes are “kooky and crazy.” The opening tracks, “Garden Gnome” and “I’m A Hamster, Yes I Am Sir,” set the mood for Beth Jean’s fun, quirky style, as does “The Best Mustache in Michigan.” But there is a real endearing quality to her music too. Beth Jean, who is a contributor to the Indiana PBS kids show The Friday Zone, also scores high marks with her more contemporary-sounding numbers, like “Never Give Up” and “No Gravity.” She brings together her retro whimsy with a modern day upbeat message on the closing track, “You Are Magic!,” and Let’s Put On A Show definitely captures your attention – and holds on to it – with its playful, magical charms.”
