Mightier is a game that improves the emotional health of children who struggle with their emotions. This includes anger/aggression, irritability, feelings of frustration, anxiety, or a diagnosis like ADHD, ODD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The clinically validated program was developed by clinicians at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and helps children practice coping skills by playing biofeedback games. Over time and routine practice these skills will become more automatic even when kids face real world challenges.
Evaluation comments:
“This is a wonderful tool for families that have a child/children with special needs such as Autism, ADHD, ADD, emotional outburst or children that have difficulty managing their emotions (tantrums, aggression, etc.). The set comes with a tablet, a heart monitor (with a small and a large band), charging materials and a squeeze heart. Once the tablet is set up (Wi-Fi, Mightier app downloaded, information about the child inputted), the child wears the heart monitor while playing games on the tablet. When their heart rate rises and they need to “calm down” the game stops and reminds them to take some deep breaths and pause so they can “cool down” and slow down their heart rate. The child, over time learns to use this technique in real life situations such as in the classroom. The practice should be done consistently 3 times a week for 15-20 minutes for 90 days so that the behavior of taking deep breaths and calming down becomes natural. The parent app is connected to the program so parents can check their child’s progress.”
“I like that the parents can monitor the child’s progress on their own app so that the child can use the tablet independently and build self confidence along with the skill to pause and calm down when necessary.”
