moonbuddy

Moonbuddy is a screen-free breathing companion for children aged 6 to 12. Its soft body gently expands and contracts, giving kids something to follow with their hands and breath. Four rhythms, from 6 to 10 breaths per minute, guide slow breathing at bedtime. One button, no app, no screen, no Bluetooth. In a published real-world study, parents reported children fell asleep faster and felt calmer. Interchangeable sleeves: Bibi the bird and Barry the bear.

Evaluation comments:

“It’s small enough to toss in a backpack which makes it easy to take on the go. The “belly” expands and contracts like it’s taking a breath. You hold it in your palm and match your breathing to the selected cadence. It’s slow and regulated to help calm your nervous system.”

“Both my 7- and 4-year-old were into it right away, so much so that the first few nights turned into an actual argument over who got to sleep with it. My 4-year-old started calling it her calm bear” and asked for it by name at bedtime.”

“I tried it out myself and it is a nice way to introduce breath work with kids.”

“We started using it in place of my daughter sucking her thumb. For a little while it actually worked. She’d hold it and breathe along instead of using her thumb to fall asleep. Alas it was short lived, but we might be able to make it work with some consistency!”

“Once my girls got the hang of it though, it really did seem to help settle them down at bedtime.”

“I like that it teaches breath work.”

“Great idea for a product!”
