Evaluation comments:
Often times history books only focus on the most memorable presidents. Tom DeMichael however, includes a complete yet concise overview of each and every president of the United States in chronological order. Our American Presidents is able to capture readers through the various photos and cartoons, both historical and recent. The Monroe Doctrine, for example, is presented in a cartoon so that it can be easily understood. Each president’s story is only about two pages and functions as a good basis for learning more. Not only are there key dates and events presented, this book includes other relevant information that students can relate to. For example, DeMichael includes that William Harrison’s election marked the first time that a presidential campaign featured parades, rallies, songs, and huge posters. Recommended for students 6th grade and up, this book can spark lots of historical interest.
