Evaluation comments:
“Patty Shukla (aka Miss Patty) is a content superstar for kids – particularly those pre-school and younger but also for early grade schoolers. Her YouTube Channel contains a deep selection of fun, educational videos – some going back 14 years. The videos can range from being just over a minute long to more than 40 minutes. Some are live action, some are animated, and some mix the two. Whatever the length, style, or subject matter, however, they are all full of fun energy as well as elements that nicely promote childhood development. Shukla doesn’t try to get overly elaborate with her videos, which works particularly well with little ones. But the videos are far from simplistic. Shukla often adds little but important touches that make the videos more engaging and/or educational. A music video about capital letters, for example, also offers easy instructions on how to draw the letters, while an alphabet music video includes how to sign the letter. A recent video on sea animals, similarly, has an interactive, call & response-style song structure. While most of her videos are about a single song, she does create longer compilation episodes (often called: Patty Shukla Kids TV) that are like a TV show (only without any commercials) as well as presenting even longer playlists of videos. Additionally, she can be found on many other streaming platforms besides YouTube, as well as in other types of media (like books and DVDs). The primary point behind Patty Shulka’s Primary Songs is that they really do act as great educational “primary songs” for young children.”
