Evaluation comments from our Music Judge:
“Star Forest is a virtual band composed of four animated “musicians”: guitarist/singer Hawk Frost, keyboardist/singer Fawn Velvette; percussionist Rocktapus Bueblood VII, and bassist Sluuth Marbles. On their debut album, these cartoon quartet amusingly mix danceable New Wave and synth with rock ‘n’ roll, rap, and even a bit of twang (as on “Little Fancy Creek”). While there is some silly spacey wordplay, the songs also have sensible earthbound messages. While Star Forest sing about “crickets on a bubblegum cloud” on the title track, the song is about not giving up. Amidst the “fruit punch grogs” and “a wooden leg splinter,” the pirate-themed “Chantey Cog” concerns about breaking the mold and changing people’s attitudes; the pirates go from not liking (and excluding) girls to liking (and welcoming) them. “Zuggabugga” is the name of a scary creature but the lyrics also hold a “don’t lie to people” moral. The band cleverly uses their imaginations as a way to urge listeners to use their imaginations. Because “In the Star Forest/Anything is possible!/Whatever you dream can be real!/Just let your dreams run wild.”
