Evaluation comments:
“The character stories are a perfect length (not too long and not too short) with a fair amount of repetition regarding how the pieces can move on the chess board. Immediately following each story is a series of mini games where you can practice moving the pieces. The mini games are incredibly simple. I thought my daughter wouldn’t engage because they would be too boring, but surprisingly she was into them and would then be able to repeat how that particular character/piece moves.”
“We are by no means chess aficionados at our house. I know how to play, but haven’t in years, and my husband actually never learned, so this was really fun (and a useful way) for the whole family to engage and play together. Learning a really rules-based game through stories is something I haven’t seen before.”
“I really like the methodology of this game and how it teaches what is typically thought of as a tough game to learn/teach to young kids.”
“Once opened, the original game has what looks like traditional chess pieces, but with an extra groove/slot on each piece to place a cardboard cutout character into. There is an accompanying book that then tells a story about each character (chess piece) with the goal of teaching the reader how each piece moves on a chess board.”
“The boxes are covered in colorful, silly pictures and have everything you need to know about the game inside. I love the idea behind this method of learning chess.”
“Kids (and adults) can learn chess game play, strategy, and tactics through funny stories and unforgettable characters.”
“Our whole family was excited to try these games out! I love the idea of my daughter learning chess strategy at an early age and I’m also excited to learn how to play the game myself.”
“I didn’t know what to expect with the stories but I was pleasantly surprised. They are engaging and fun to read.”
“We have been having so much fun with this set. My daughter wants to read the stories every night.”
“We started by reading the first book nightly. Then we moved onto the second and third. The stories are so beyond silly that they are easy for a child to remember.”
“The storylines move from how the chess pieces move across the board to the best strategies and tactics for beginners. I love that just from reading the books, my daughter remembers how each of the pieces move.”
“We just started playing the mini games on the chess board that the books guide you through and already my daughter is doing so well with them. One of her favorite things to do right now is color, so when we opened the second box and found the coloring book, she was even more excited. The simple activity helps bring the characters we’re reading about to life.”
“The workbooks are great for kids this age and not only introduce chess concepts but also work on learning letters and numbers.”
“I like how easy this chess curriculum is for a 4-year-old.”
“My daughter loves the stories and coloring books. Her favorite character is the party princess because she wears a beautiful dress.”
“This is a fantastic product.”
“I’m so glad we had the opportunity to try this product. It’s something we can continue playing and learning for years!”
