The ABC’s of Percussion is an educational and fun way for children to learn about some of the oldest musical instruments in the world – percussion instruments. This picture book identifies and discusses one percussion instrument per letter of the alphabet – that’s 26 different percussion instruments from around the world. The accompanying audio CD brings the book to life through world beats and rhythms, highlighting each instrument.
Readers will learn about percussions from Agogo to Zabumba. The book is told in rhyme which helps readers keep to the beat of the drums. The book is accompanied by a CD of music. Readers can listen to the instruments they are reading about. The author/musician also reads aloud the text while playing a catchy song. Readers will be shaking their heads and tapping their feet. – Tester 2
Why we like it: The CD’s short songs (around 30 seconds a piece) match a percussion instrument to a letter of the alphabet. These quick little ditties provide brief introductions to these instruments. Together with the accompany picture book, it gives young children a nice, general overview at this corner of the music world. – Tester 1
