“While the award-winning musician Sukey Molloy has included some stories on her prior children’s music albums, her latest effort is a full-blown storytelling project. On The Adventures of Little Stubby, she shares six different tales about Little Stubby, “a sweet, young mini-donkey with a mind of his own.” Little Stubby’s adventures, which include going to a new home, rescuing an animal in trouble, having an important errand to do, and searching for his friend – are all very relatable to little ones. Each story also addresses a different emotion (whether nervous about seeing a doctor or being afraid over learning to swim) with Molloy offering a suggestion on how to relax or become calm in emotional situations. These suggestions are structured in a repeated pattern with minor changes to fit the particular story – similar to a refrain in a song. It is a really smart approach because the repetition comes something familiar and reassuring to young listener. Similarly, there is a comforting, friendly tone to Molloy’s narration, which is backed by a gentle musical soundtrack and fun special effects. Averaging around seven minutes in length, the stories can be enjoyed individually or as a group, which makes them great for short drives or a 40-minute story time.”
