This is a book for princesses who wear hiking boots and walk around with their hair in a mess, and princes who drive pickup trucks. The Princess and the Pickup Truck is an Appalachian retelling of The Princess and the Pea. A great story by PEN Award winning author Bil Lepp, with bright and eclectic illustrations by Lottie Looney, this is the perfect book for your rough and tumble royalty.
From our evaluators:
“There are many quirky versions of The Princess and the Pea, but this one felt like it owned its spot on the shelf. There is a solid southern “voice” to the telling of the tale and it probably comes directly from the writer who is a storyteller. We can imagine some teachers, librarians, parents reading this book with a southern accent. The illustrations are appropriately homespun, quirky-isn folk art and a fine match for the story.”
