This picture book with narration and music is by Vancouver artist Hilary Grist. The story is about Ira and Isabelle, two siblings living in a little red house by the sea, who decide one night to escape the sound of the city’s beeping cars and sail off to a faraway land. On their journey, they learn from a newly-made friend, a robin with a soft voice, that dreams really can come true.
Why we like it: This Secret Mountain book presents a totally winning combo of picture book and CD. The book is composed of some really terrific photography. Hilary Grist deserves multiple credit for creating the clay characters photographed in the story book as well as doing the story and the music. The music exudes a lovely quality that fits its description of being “dream songs.”
