Evaluation comments from our NAPPA Awards Music Judge:
“If you have ever made up a silly song with your child, you will be impressed with (and be a bit envious of) the music that Jared Mees has created with his two young daughters on this excellent, exuberant album. You Are Magic’s 15 songs touch upon moments that families will recognize – a stuffy scavenger hunt, a trip to the lake, making slime, dealing with pets, wishing that every day was Halloween – but here they have been transformed into spunky, rocking tunes stuffed with kooky humor and lots of love. Particularly impressive are the lyrics that are goofy yet sly smart – from the knowing lines in “Bad Kitty” (“but a hiss can only mean one thing”) to the cleverly kid-twisted logic of “Dance Party” (“can we clean up in the morning?). Young and old listeners not only will enjoy this album’s music but also the genuine chemistry that Jared and his daughters, July and Piper, have playing together. I could continue offering up more praise, but I want to go back and listen to You Are Magic again. “
